This talk is about Service Operations as part of an ITIL-like good practice. MODX and the community focus a lot on the ease of creating new sites and new features. Once a site is "in the wild" however, maintaining it becomes time consuming and not supported well enough by the systems themselves.
Today server systems are monitored automatically to ensure a proper service level. The same should be done for your websites, as these are your valuable assets and where you make your money! Pinging sites is quite easy and cheap (and we all somehow use that), but only tells you that something is broken with your site. That is often too late and you still don't know what happened. And your customer is displeased.
In this talk I will provide everyday examples where automatic, continuous monitoring saves you time and increases security and customer experience. This is a plea for more professionalism. At the end of the talk (if enough time left), I would like to demonstrate a preview of a new service I am currently working on which completely monitors your (MODX) web systems and gives you a cockpit overview of all your sites.
